THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON

In traditional Chinese society, the usual standards for women are still very stiff and rigid, such as slender body, delicate skin, beautiful appearance, gentle voice, elegant posture, and easy-going personality. These standards seem to be the label of "pricing" for girls. With globalization, these concepts have gradually weakened. However, under the notion that China has been infiltrated by group culture for five thousand years, this phenomenon is still widespread, and it even penetrates into people's genes. Although these are not so obvious, the subconsciousness hidden under the surface still drives many girls to feel inferior to their bodies. Women always want to cover up these ugly parts of the body and show others in the most glamorous posture. The patriarchal culture seems to have tamed the uniqueness of female individuals for thousands of years. I think that as women, we often live in a "male gaze".

What I can do is to give them an opportunity to face these shy things. I hope that this project can be used as a breakthrough, so that my subjects and viewers can start to think about what makes us want to cover up our defects.

At the same time, in my opinion this is also a protest and accusation. It is undeniable that this is a difficult journey. I tried to persuade the girls to face my camera over and over again. Most of their concerns were the same because they didn't want to show their flaws and fragility. I need to communicate quietly with them, encourage them to confide in their inner thoughts, and tell me frankly about their physical or psychological injuries. In the process, some girls confided to me the thoughts that had been suppressed for a long time. When they finally revealed their flaws calmly, many of them were relieved.

I photographed the ugly parts of their bodies in abstract form, so that some flaws no longer look like skin or some body parts. They look more like mountains, rivers, sky and other beautiful nature. I want the flaws that these girls are ashamed to show another beauty in my shooting.

There has never been a perfect body in this world.
